Dr. Victor G. Prieto is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Anatomical Pathology within the Division of Pathology/Lab Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He has held key leadership positions including Chair of Anatomical Pathology, section chief of dermatopathology, and Fellowship Director for both dermatopathology and surgical pathology programs.
His research focuses on melanoma, particularly the molecular and morphological features that predict behavior and response to therapy. His work includes studying the expression of iNOS, retinoid receptors, galectin-3, and tyrosine kinases in primary and metastatic melanoma, as well as evaluating the impact of immunotherapies and targeted treatments. He is a contributor to the WHO Blue Book on cutaneous neoplasms and co-directs the melanoma tissue bank at MD Anderson.
Dr. Prieto has been actively involved in multi-institutional research through NCI and SPORE initiatives, contributing to translational and clinical projects in melanoma. He has trained numerous fellows through accredited programs and continues to lead one of the most specialized pathology divisions in oncology.
