Victor Fleischer is a Professor of Law at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, specializing in tax law, corporate finance, and financial market regulation. He joined UCI in 2018 after roles at the University of San Diego School of Law and other prestigious institutions. Fleischer holds a JD from Columbia Law School and a BA from Columbia College.
His research focuses on partnership tax, corporate tax policy, and private equity taxation, with notable work on the carried interest loophole and tax reform. He has been widely cited and ranked, including as No. 5 in Brian Leiter’s 2016–2020 Most-Cited Tax Faculty and frequently featured in TaxProf Blog rankings.
Fleischer teaches courses such as Deals and Partnership Taxation, and has authored influential articles including Tax and the Boundaries of the Firm and Job Creationism. He has also contributed amicus briefs in significant tax cases, such as Altera Corp. v. Commissioner.
