معرفی
Professor Viacheslav Nikulin is a distinguished mathematician specializing in Algebraic Geometry with a career spanning several decades. He holds a professorship and is actively engaged in research and academic leadership, currently serving as the Director of the MSc course in Mathematics for the past six years. His work focuses on advanced topics in algebraic varieties and their geometric properties, with significant contributions to the mathematical community internationally.
Professor Nikulin's research interests encompass several specialized areas in modern mathematics:
- Classical algebraic varieties, particularly del Pezzo surfaces and K3 surfaces
- Calabi-Yau manifolds and their geometric properties
- Arithmetic aspects of quadratic forms
- Arithmetic hyperbolic reflection groups
- Hyperbolic (Borcherds) Kac-Moody Lie algebras
His recent publications demonstrate a sustained focus on K3 surfaces and their automorphism properties, exploring classifications of degenerations, Picard lattices, and symplectic automorphism groups. His work connects deep theoretical concepts with concrete geometric structures, advancing our understanding of complex algebraic surfaces through rigorous mathematical analysis.
Professor Nikulin has received significant recognition for his contributions to mathematics:
- Prize of Academy of Sciences of USSR for outstanding results in Mathematics and applications (1989)
- Prize of Moscow Mathematical Society to young mathematicians (1979)
He has secured research funding including an EPSRC grant for "Correspondences of K3 surface via moduli of sheaves" (2006-2010). Professor Nikulin is an active member of the mathematical community, having served as one of the leaders of the Algebraic Geometry group in Pure Mathematics and as an organizer of the Algebraic Geometry seminar. He was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Berkeley, USA in 1986, including a presentation on "Hyperbolic Reflection groups and algebraic surfaces". His professional memberships include the London Mathematical Society (since 2005) and the Moscow Mathematical Society (since 1977).
