Verónica Vicencio is a Contract Instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University. She is currently completing her PhD in Anthropology, focusing on the racialized experiences of queer migrant Latinas in Ottawa. Her research examines how these individuals challenge and negotiate normative gender and sexual identities within white and queer spaces, emphasizing social connections and agency.
Education: M.A. Anthropology (Carleton University), B.A. Women and Gender Studies (Carleton University).
Research interests include critical race theory, feminist and queer studies, migration, and transnationalism. Her work extends her M.A. thesis on queer Mexicans in Veracruz, exploring how marginalized communities create queer spaces in conservative contexts.
Publications include a 2023 article in the Brazilian Journal of Latin American Studies analyzing drag performance and Latina stereotypes. She has also contributed to forthcoming edited works and book reviews in anthropological studies.
