Veronika Wallroth is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS), Faculty of Philosophy, Linköping University. She is a senior lecturer and active researcher in gerontological social work, with a focus on gender, aging, and care systems.
Her educational background includes a master's in social work and doctoral research at NISAL on men as caregivers. She teaches in the Social Work program, emphasizing aging, ageism, and scientific methods, and leads institutional roles such as the Undergraduate Council and Student Collaboration Group.
Her research interests include how norms around gender and aging shape societal expectations and care practices. She investigates loneliness among the elderly, media and policy representations of caregiving, and home care for people with dementia through the interdisciplinary DEM(H)CARE program. She is also involved in longitudinal studies on men's caregiving roles.
The recent publications reflect a consistent focus on caregiving, media framing, and social interventions for the elderly. Themes include gendered care roles, media narratives, and community-based strategies to reduce loneliness.
