Veronika Seidlová

Veronika Seidlová, Ph.D. serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology within the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University in Prague. Her academic career spans contemporary ethnographic research with specialization in musical traditions across transnational contexts.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Charles University Faculty of Humanities (2016), with dissertation research examining the transnational journey of Vedic mantras from India to the Czech Republic through multi-sited ethnography.

Seidlová's research centers on ethnomusicological investigations of marginalized musical practices, particularly Jewish liturgical traditions in Central Europe and Hindu devotional music in transnational contexts. Her work explores how musical practices negotiate religious identity, cultural marginality, and globalization processes. Key publications demonstrate methodological innovation through multi-sited ethnographic approaches while documenting endangered musical heritage.

Her recent publications reveal consistent focus on urban soundscapes, religious musical practices, and transnational cultural flows. The research demonstrates particular strength in documenting Jewish musical heritage in Prague and Hindu mantra practices across diasporic communities, often examining how marginalized groups use music to navigate modernity and preserve identity.

From 2008-2010, Seidlová served as curator and head of the Center for Documentation of Popular Music and New Media at the National Museum – Czech Museum of Music, where she organized significant exhibitions including Beatlemania!
