Her research focuses on socio-cognitive approaches in critical discourse studies, with specialties in political discourse, health communication, business discourse, and language and sexuality. Current projects include analyzing the discourse of cancer charities and Brexit-related language. She leads research groups like DisTex and LIP, and her work bridges theoretical insights with practical consultancy in corporate and third-sector contexts.
Her research explores metaphors as tools for constructing identities and ideologies, including studies on gender in business media, lesbian discourses, corporate branding, and end-of-life care. Koller has advised PhD student Tianxin Li and collaborates on projects funded by various grants. She actively participates in editorial roles for journals like Metaphor and the Social World and Gender and Language, and engages in international conferences addressing language, power, and culture.
Publications highlight her analysis of Brexit discourse, metaphor usage in health contexts, and online communities such as the 'manosphere.' Her work emphasizes the societal impact of language, particularly in contentious areas like populism, gender-based violence, and public health communication.
