Vera Vernooij

Vera Vernooij is a researcher at Wageningen University & Research in the Department of Post Harvest Technology. Her work focuses on enhancing food system outcomes through technology and innovation, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. She actively engages with informal midstream actors in supply chains and explores pragmatic approaches for sustainable development.

• Projects: Leading KD-2023-062 on high-value utilization of residual streams for animal feed and completed a PhD on low greenhouse gas emissions dairy development in Kenya.

Research Interests: Centered on food systems, supply chain management, and climate change mitigation strategies. Her studies emphasize informal actors, food loss and waste reduction, and sustainable practices in both global and regional contexts.

• Activities: Participated in the 5th Global Food Security Conference (2024), contributed to knowledge transfer workshops in the circular bioeconomy, and presented at events on food value chain efficiencies (2023).
