Venkataraman Thangadurai

Dr. Venkataraman Thangadurai is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary, Canada. He holds academic positions including former roles as Professor (2015–present), Associate Professor (2012–2015), and Assistant Professor (2005–2012). He has also served as Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Maryland and Guest Professor at the University of Kiel, Germany.

Education: B.Sc. (Chemistry and Education), M.Sc. (Chemistry), Ph.D. (Solid State Chemistry) from Indian Institute of Science, followed by a habilitation (Solid State Ionics) from Christian-Albrechts Universität zu Kiel.

Research focuses on solid-state ionic materials for energy applications, including solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), proton-conducting electrolytes, lithium-ion batteries, and gas sensors. Key interests include the design of novel solid electrolytes (e.g., garnet-type Li conductors), material synthesis (high-temperature ceramic, chemical soft methods), and characterization using XRD, TGA, and electrochemical techniques.

Publications highlight advancements in Li-ion conductors, proton-conducting oxides, and CO₂/SO₂ sensors. Over 200 peer-reviewed articles showcase contributions to energy storage and electrochemical systems. Editorships include Chemistry of Materials, Energy Technology, and Scientific Reports.

Awards include Fellowships from the International Association of Advanced Materials (2019) and Royal Society of Chemistry (2015). Active in professional societies like the Electrochemical Society and Materials Research Society.

Guided numerous PhD/MSc students and collaborates internationally on energy materials. His research group (Thangadurai Group) explores cutting-edge materials for sustainable energy solutions.
