Veneeta Dayal is the Dorothy R. Diebold Professor of Linguistics at Yale University, specializing in formal semantics and its interfaces with syntax and pragmatics. Her office is located in Dow Hall on Yale's campus.
Her research program investigates cross-linguistic patterns in question formation, bare nominals, free choice items, and Hindi-Urdu syntax through both theoretical analysis and empirical fieldwork. Current projects examine the relationship between morphosyntax and interpretation across multiple languages.
She has supervised numerous doctoral students including Comfort Ahenkorah (Akan number systems), Ushasi Banerjee (bare nouns in NE Indian languages), and Yagmur Sag (number marking).
