Vassilis Kapsalis

Vassilis Kapsalis is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Peloponnese. Previously, he held positions as Assistant Professor (2007–2014) and Associate Professor (2014–2019) at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece. He earned his Diploma (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras. His research focuses on real-time networks, IoT, smart grids, and energy management systems. He has led or participated in numerous Greek and EU-funded projects, including work on telemedicine, industrial automation, and distributed energy storage.

Teaching: Teaches undergraduate courses on Telecommunication Systems, Computer Architecture, and Networks at University of Peloponnese. Also serves as a tutor for the postgraduate module “Computer Architecture and Networks” at Hellenic Open University since 2005.

Research Interests: Real-time MAC protocols, IoT applications, smart grid optimization, distributed energy storage, and demand response systems. His work emphasizes integrating energy management with IoT and addressing challenges in grid flexibility and sustainability.

Grants/Projects: Extensive experience in managing EU/Greek-funded projects on industrial networks, telemedicine, and energy systems. Notable contributions include systems for EV charging management, load aggregation, and road hazard warning services.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects involving smart grids, IoT platforms, and vehicular networks. Active in research labs focusing on real-time systems and energy informatics.
