Vangelis Pitidis is an Assistant Professor of Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick's School of Cross-Faculty Studies (IGSD). His work focuses on urban resilience, governance, and participatory citizen science methods, particularly in the Global South. He leads the EU-funded RISKPACC project addressing risk perception gaps in civil protection and co-leads the Waterproofing Data initiative recognized with a 2023 ESRC Outstanding Societal Impact Award.
He holds roles as Impact Lead for Cross-Faculty Studies and ECR representative in the Sustainability Spotlight Network. His teaching includes the core MSc module Urban Resilience, Disasters and Data and Addressing Disasters for Sustainable Development. Current projects include the WWF-funded Warwick Social Capital Assessment Framework as Principal Investigator.
Research highlights include participatory mapping methodologies for disaster resilience, flood governance in Brazil/UK comparisons, and urban health inequity analyses in informal settlements. Awards include recognition for societal impact through stakeholder engagement in flood resilience projects.
