Vamvakaki Maria

Prof. Maria Vamvakaki is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Technology, University of Crete. She holds a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Sussex (UK) and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Crete. Her research focuses on polymer synthesis and characterization, biomedical applications, colloids, hybrid materials, and smart materials. She has extensive experience in advanced techniques such as light scattering, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy.

Her career includes visiting professorships at the University of Crete and research fellowships at institutions like the University of Sussex and the University of Cyprus. She has supervised numerous PhD and MPhil students, contributing to their research in polymer science and nanotechnology.

Prof. Vamvakaki has authored over 60 publications and secured grants for projects including 'Tailored Nanosized Metal Catalysts' and 'Responsive ABC Triblock Copolymers'. Her awards include the '2 Best Innovation by an Individual Researcher' Award (2010) and the D.H. Richards Bursary (1997). She has also participated in international conferences and served as a reviewer for journals like Biomacromolecules and Langmuir.

Her research spans functional polymers for drug delivery, nanoparticle synthesis within polymeric matrices, and advanced materials for photonics. She collaborates with institutions globally, advancing interdisciplinary fields such as nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.
