Dr Valerie Wasinger is a researcher at the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Facility within the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She is recognized as a pioneer in proteomics, notably as the first author of the foundational paper that defined the term 'proteomics' through studies on Mycoplasma genitalium. Her work spans medical biochemistry, metabolomics, and paleoproteomics, with a focus on translating proteomic techniques into clinical applications such as IBD, cancer, and forensic research.
