Valerie SAUTOU

Valerie SAUTOU is a Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Université Clermont Auvergne, affiliated with the Institut de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand (ICCF). She serves as Head of the Medical Devices and Container/Content Interactions (DMIC2) theme within the Materials for Health (MPS) team. Her research focuses on critical interactions between pharmaceutical products and medical device materials, particularly examining plasticizer migration, drug adsorption, and stability issues in clinical settings.

Her research interests span medical device safety, pharmaceutical technology, and toxicology with emphasis on container-content interactions. She investigates plasticizer exposure in vulnerable populations like neonates, develops alternative materials to traditional PVC, and examines drug stability in ophthalmic and injectable formulations. Her work combines experimental approaches with molecular simulations to understand drug-material interactions at fundamental levels.

Recent publications reveal strong focus on insulin-PVC interactions, alternative plasticizers, and medical device safety in critical care settings. Her research demonstrates consistent application of both in vitro and in silico methodologies across pharmaceutical, toxicological, and materials science domains, with particular attention to clinical translation and regulatory implications.

Her collaborative network includes researchers from pharmacy, chemistry, and clinical departments, with frequent co-authorship with P. Chennell, Lise Bernard, and Yassine Bouattour.
