Valerie Lehr is a Professor in the Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at St. Lawrence University, where she also serves as Department Chair. Holding a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park (1990), her work bridges political theory, feminist theory, and queer activism. She has authored critical scholarship on LGBTQ+ family structures and human rights, including her foundational book Queer Family Values: Debunking the Myth of the Nuclear Family (Temple University Press, 1999).
Her research spans:

- Human rights and queer youth advocacy
- Feminist and LGBTQ+ policy analysis
She has served as a Commissioner on the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, reflecting her leadership in academic governance. Teaching areas include:
