Valerie Allison is an Associate Professor of Education and Chair of the Education Department at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD in Teaching and Learning from the University of Utah (2006), with a focus on critical reflective thinking in veteran teachers. Her academic leadership roles include Director of Secondary Education and prior leadership as an elementary principal in Utah (2003–2008).
Dr. Allison’s research emphasizes equity in education, narrative inquiry, and self-study methodologies. She has published extensively on topics like educator leadership, taboo classroom discussions, and cross-cultural teacher identity, often collaborating with students and international colleagues. Her work integrates action research, emphasizing practical classroom applications and ethical educator practices.
She teaches courses including Literacy Assessment (EDUC 367), Principles of Learning and Teaching (EDUC 479), and oversees student teaching programs. Her service includes chairing university committees, mentoring new faculty, and organizing community engagement initiatives such as field trips to diverse urban schools.
