Valeria Graceffa

Valeria Graceffa is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science and Principal Investigator at the Department of Life Sciences, Athlone Institute of Technology (ATU) Sligo. Her research focuses on gene delivery systems, cellular health, and bioprocess engineering with applications in lysosomal storage diseases and algal biotechnology. She leads the Celluar Health & Toxicology Group and contributes to the Mathematical Modelling and Intelligent Systems for Health and Environment (MISHE) initiative.

Her expertise spans molecular biology, biomedical engineering, and bioprocess optimization. Recent work includes developing fibrin-mediated gene delivery systems for cystinosis treatment and studying cold stress effects on diatom lipid/carotenoid production. She has contributed 14 peer-reviewed publications since 2017, with notable work in Scientific Reports and Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering.
