Valentin Valterovich Pogosov

Valentin Valterovich Pogosov is a Professor at the Department of Physical Materials Science within the Engineering-Physics Faculty of National University Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic. With a career spanning over four decades since 1979, he has established himself as a leading researcher in nanotechnology and condensed matter physics.

Dr. Pogosov earned his degree as an Electronics Engineer from Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1977. He completed his Candidate's thesis on 'Electrophysical properties of small metal particles in low-temperature plasma' in 1987 at the Institute of High Temperatures of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and his Doctoral dissertation on 'Theoretical study of the energy properties of polyatomic complexes with a surface of significant curvature: clusters, vacancies' in 1997 at the Institute of High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His work was nostrified at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1998.

Professor Pogosov's research focuses on the frontier of nanoscale physics, with particular expertise in nanometrology, nanophysics, cluster physics, surface physics, and plasma physics. His work bridges fundamental theoretical physics with practical applications in nanotechnology. He has made significant contributions to understanding the behavior of positrons in solids and liquids, and the development of single-electronic devices. His research has evolved from studying fundamental properties of small metal particles to more complex systems involving nanoclusters, vacancies, and bimetallic structures.

His recent publications demonstrate continued focus on optical properties of nanomaterials, energy characteristics of nanoclusters, and the behavior of charged systems at the nanoscale. The research shows strong interdisciplinary connections between physics, materials science, and nanotechnology, with applications spanning from fundamental quantum phenomena to potential device implementations.

Professor Pogosov has been recognized with numerous awards:

• Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine (2000)
• Honorary Diploma of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration (2005)
• Badge 'Excellence in Education of Ukraine' (2007)
• Badge 'Petro Mohyla' (2011)
• Badge 'For Impeccable Work' III degree (2013)

Throughout his career, Professor Pogosov has secured significant international funding, including from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Soros Foundation, and NATO's 'Science for Peace' Programme. He has actively participated in the Academic Council of National University 'Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic' and the IIRE Academic Council FRET. His expertise has been shared through teaching courses in Physical Chemistry, Solid State Physics, Physics of Nanoclusters and Thin Films, Fundamentals of Surface Physics, and Modern Directions of Nanotechnology.

Professor Pogosov maintains strong international collaborations and has presented his research at numerous international conferences focused on clusters, nanostructured materials, and thin film technologies. His work continues to advance our understanding of nanoscale phenomena and their applications.
