Vahed Maroufy

Vahed Maroufy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the UTHealth School of Public Health in Austin, Texas. He earned his PhD in Statistics and Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2016 and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the same department before transitioning to his current faculty role.

His research spans theoretical and applied domains, focusing on the intersection of mathematics and biostatistics. During his graduate studies, he explored applications of convex and differential geometry in statistical inference and optimization, as well as Bayesian sample size determination in clinical trials. Currently, his work emphasizes data mining, deep learning, and survival analysis applied to big biomedical datasets and electronic health records (EHR), alongside computational approaches to cancer gene profile analysis.

He is affiliated with the Center for Big Data in Health Sciences, aligning with his expertise in leveraging complex data for public health challenges.
