Vahagn Aslanyan is a Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, supported by an EPSRC Open Fellowship. Previously, he held roles including a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship at the University of Leeds (2022-2023), senior research associate at the University of East Anglia (2019-2022), and postdoctoral positions at Carnegie Mellon University and the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (2017-2019). He earned a DPhil in Mathematics from the University of Oxford (2013-2017), supervised by Boris Zilber and Jonathan Pila, and a BSc in De Morgan Algebras from Yerevan State University (2009-2013).

Research Interests:
Aslanyan specializes in model theory, particularly its applications to number theory, geometry, algebra, and analysis. His current work focuses on the Zilber-Pink conjecture and the Existential Closedness conjecture. The Zilber-Pink conjecture generalizes Diophantine conjectures like André-Oort and Manin-Mumford, addressing 'special' solutions in polynomial equations. The Existential Closedness conjecture explores solvability of equations involving addition, multiplication, and classical functions (e.g., complex exponentials or modular j-functions). Earlier research included universal algebra, studying De Morgan algebras and functions.
