Vadim Ponomarenko is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San Diego State University. His primary research focuses on number theory, combinatorics, and algebra, with specialization in factorization theory, numerical semigroups, and combinatorial game theory. He actively teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Discrete Mathematics and Abstract Algebra.
His research explores diverse mathematical domains including:
- Factorization properties in numerical semigroups and congruence monoids
- Combinatorial problems in game theory (e.g., Sylver Coinage)
- Inequalities and limit theorems in analysis
- Geometric probability and stochastic models
- Algebraic structures and their arithmetic properties
Recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on asymptotic analysis of factorization lengths, generalizations of classical inequalities, and combinatorial number theory problems. His work frequently appears in prominent journals including the American Mathematical Monthly and Journal of Algebra.
Ponomarenko directs an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program focused on original mathematical research. He serves on multiple university committees including the University Senate, Inclusion Council, and Academic Policy Committee.
