Vaccari Aldo

Aldo Vaccari is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO Valais-Wallis), affiliated with the School of Engineering and IT and the Industrial Systems Department. He serves as a Scientific Associate (Adjoint-e scientifique HES A) and has been actively involved in collaborative research projects focusing on automation, renewable energy, and educational technology.

His research interests span automation and control systems, process automation, mechatronics, and robotics. He also contributes to interdisciplinary fields such as renewable energy systems, particularly hydropower and microturbine development, and bioprocess engineering, including automated flow cytometry analysis for microbial plastic production and sensor-equipped robotic platforms like Envirobot. Additionally, he has pioneered educational technology initiatives, such as remote laboratories and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), to enhance distance learning and resource sharing.

Key projects include the development of a predictive adaptive grid management system (ED2050-2015-003), online flow cytometry analysis for PHA production, and SCCER 4 energy innovation programs. He has collaborated with institutions like EPFL, CHU Grenoble, and The Ark Energy, securing over CHF 3 million in collaborative research funding between 2009 and 2021. His work emphasizes practical applications, from industrial automation to disaster prevention education through the Seismic Prevention Education Center (CPPS) and OpenGridLab infrastructure.

As a project leader and collaborator, Vaccari Aldo has coordinated teams spanning multiple disciplines, including mechanical engineering, electrical systems, and biomedical instrumentation. His contributions bridge academia and industry, focusing on sustainable technologies and pedagogical innovation.
