Research Focus:
His scholarly work centres on risk-oriented corporate disclosure, IFRS-compliant accounting for financial instruments, structured financing transactions, valuation of stock options and equity-based compensation, value-oriented controlling systems, company valuation methodologies, financial risk management and integrated reporting. He also explores information-economic aspects of both internal management accounting and external financial reporting.
Publication Trends:
Between 2001 and 2006 he produced a steady stream of articles and monographs that empirically analyse the quality and determinants of corporate risk disclosure under IFRS and German GAAP, develop new metrics for risk-reporting scores, and investigate the value-relevance of non-financial information such as human-capital and customer-related intangible assets.
Professional Service:
Prior to his academic appointment he gained extensive practical experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers AG (PwC) in Hamburg and Leipzig, working in general auditing and national accounting services from 1998 to 2009. This blend of practice and research underpins his teaching and doctoral supervision activities.
