Uwe Kruger

Uwe Kruger is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester (2002). His research focuses on applying machine learning and statistical methods to healthcare challenges, including surgical skill assessment, medical imaging, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) biomarkers, and process monitoring in biomedical systems. Key areas include AI-driven diagnostic tools, functional connectivity for motor skill evaluation, and predictive modeling of medical outcomes.

Dr. Kruger has pioneered work on integrating deep learning into surgical training and burn care, developing novel metrics for skill evaluation and tissue analysis. His contributions to medical education include studies on AI tools like ChatGPT in academic settings. He also explores the biomechanical properties of thermal injuries and metabolic biomarkers for ASD prediction through multivariate analysis.
