Dr. Uwe Bach serves as a Group Leader within the Scientific Service at the Radio Observatory Effelsberg, operated by the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bad Münstereifel-Effelsberg, Germany. He oversees critical operations for the 100-meter Effelsberg radio telescope, one of the world's largest fully steerable instruments, focusing on observational support and technical leadership for international astronomical research.
His core research spans Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) studies of relativistic jets in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), analysis of flux density variability phenomena in extragalactic sources, and precision calibration of radio telescope instrumentation. This work bridges observational astrophysics, high-energy particle acceleration mechanisms, and advanced radio interferometry techniques essential for probing supermassive black hole environments.
As Group Leader, Bach directs specialized teams within the Scientific Service department to maintain data integrity and observational reliability at the Effelsberg facility. His operational leadership directly enables cutting-edge research in galactic structure, cosmic magnetism, and transient phenomena through the telescope's unique capabilities in centimeter-to-meter wavelength observations.
