Ute Harms

Prof. Dr. Ute Harms is Director of the Department of Biology Education at the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) and Professor of Biology Education at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Her work focuses on teacher professional development, digital tools in biology education, and sustainability pedagogy.

Current research areas include:

• Promoting scientific skills in biology lessons
• Professional competence of biology teachers
• Digital tools for biology teaching and teacher training
• Climate literacy and sustainability education
• Extracurricular science promotion

Recent publications address pandemic preparedness in education (2025) and climate literacy assessment frameworks (2025). She leads the FaBiUs project on educational science knowledge transfer and contributes to the AnCHoR project on climate risk perception.
