Usman Abdullah is a Lecturer in Engineering at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), School of Engineering, Technology and Design. He joined CCCU in November 2022 and has extensive academic experience in teaching and research across UK and overseas higher education institutions. His PhD research, conducted at Bournemouth University in collaboration with Schaeffler Technologies AG, focused on numerical and experimental investigations of rolling bearing elements, particularly martensitic steel durability under rolling contact fatigue.
Education: PhD in Design and Engineering (Bournemouth University), MSc/MEng in Mechanical Engineering, and BEng in Mechanical Engineering. Professional affiliations include Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Research interests span numerical simulations, dynamic modelling, product design, and machine learning. His work emphasizes improving material reliability and providing innovative solutions for SMEs. Teaching roles include leading modules in System Design, Dynamic Modelling, and Engineering Analysis at CCCU, as well as roles at the University of Bristol and NUST (Pakistan).
Publications focus on tribology, material fatigue, and bearing performance, with contributions to journals like Materials Science and Engineering. He has pioneered techniques for real-engine wear analysis and developed bio-lubricant evaluations for automotive components.
