Urszula Kryger

Professor Urszula Kryger is a distinguished mezzo-soprano and faculty member at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, specifically in the Faculty of Vocal and Acting. She is one of Poland's most recognized classical vocalists with an international performance career spanning major opera houses and concert venues worldwide.

Professor Kryger completed comprehensive musical training at the Academy of Music in Łódź, studying both piano and vocal performance. Her exceptional talent was recognized early through prestigious competition victories including the Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition for Young Singers (1992), Johannes Brahms International Vocal Competition (1994), and ARD International Music Competition (1994).

Her performance career highlights include recitals of Chopin's songs at La Scala (1995) and a successful debut at Semper Oper Dresden in Rossini's 'Cinderella' (1996). She has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Jan Krenz, Jerzy Semkow, and Sir Colin Davis, and with distinguished musicians including pianists Hartmut Höll and Pascal Rogé, and ensembles like the Tokyo String Quartet.

Professor Kryger has received critical acclaim for her artistry, particularly in song interpretation, earning the Karol Szymanowski Foundation Prize. Her extensive discography features recordings for major labels including Decca, Hyperion, CPO, and DUX, with multiple Fryderyk awards recognizing her contributions to Polish music.

As an educator at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Professor Kryger shares her expertise through teaching and master classes, mentoring the next generation of vocal artists with emphasis on technical precision and authentic artistic expression.
