Urska Kosir

Urska Kosir serves as a Departmental Lecturer and Research Fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Risk & Resilience group (Bowes Lab) and Magdalen/Brasenose Colleges. She concurrently collaborates with McGill University's Sarcoma Team and European advocacy networks including Youth Cancer Europe.

Her educational background includes a DPhil in Experimental Psychology and a BSc in Psychology from Yale University, where early research spanned autism studies, depression symptom clusters, and clinical trials for weight management in psychosis patients.

Dr. Kosir's research investigates psychological adaptation mechanisms in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, focusing on developmental psychopathology, resilience factors, and mental health outcomes through mixed-methods approaches. Her work addresses critical gaps in non-WEIRD populations, examining how illness trajectories, social environments, and personal characteristics interact to influence depression, anxiety, and PTSD in survivorship.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent emphasis on sarcoma-specific quality of life, fertility preservation access, and pandemic impacts on cancer care, with methodological strengths in longitudinal designs and patient-centered outcome development. Her 2020-2025 work shows increasing policy engagement through European health system analyses.

As a prominent patient advocate, she co-leads pan-European studies on fertility preservation services and promotes youth inclusion in clinical research, having presented findings at the World Cancer Congress and European Cancer Organization Summit. Her advocacy is informed by personal experience as a cancer survivor since 2014.

She directs the Risk & Resilience lab's sarcoma research stream and contributes to McGill University's Sarcoma Team, developing patient-reported outcome measures while collaborating with Smilow Yale-New Haven Cancer Hospital on adolescent oncology pathways.
