Dr. Urooj Raja serves as Assistant Professor of Public Communication and Advocacy in Loyola University Chicago's School of Communication, with faculty affiliate appointments at the Lab for Applied Artificial Intelligence (Quinlan School of Business) and Institute of Racial Justice. Her research examines societal responses to socio-environmental crises through the lens of psychological distance and climate change engagement.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Environmental Studies from University of Colorado Boulder (Sustainability, Energy and Environment Complex), MA in Sociology (Environmental Sociology) from the same institution, and BA in History (with honors) with South Asian Studies certificate from Princeton University.
Raja's work bridges environmental communication, social psychology, and emerging technologies. She investigates how virtual reality and AI reshape climate change understanding, with particular focus on psychological distance mechanisms.
