Professor Umar Toseeb is a faculty member in the Department of Education at the University of York. He leads the Child and Adolescent Neurodevelopmental Diversity (CANDY) Group and serves as Research Centre Leader for the Psychology in Education Research Centre. His work focuses on special educational needs, mental health, and neurodevelopmental diversity in children and adolescents.

Recent publications examine developmental differences, bullying trajectories, and protective factors like school connectedness. These studies integrate network analysis, longitudinal methodologies, and quantitative approaches to mental health and educational outcomes.
He collaborates extensively with researchers and institutions across the UK, utilizing datasets like the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children and the National Pupil Database. His team includes Dr. Gill Francis (Assistant Professor), Dr. Emre Deniz (Research Associate), and Megan Frith (Research Associate).
Current projects include mental health during the coronavirus pandemic and genetic research into autism. He supervises PhD students in topics related to special educational needs, mental health, and youth offending, and engages in public outreach through podcasts and media interviews.
