Dr. Ulrike Töchterle is Deputy Director and Head of the Restoration Workshop at the University of Innsbruck's School of Archaeology. With a career spanning over two decades, her work integrates prehistoric archaeology, metallurgical studies, and artifact conservation.
Her research focuses on Bronze Age metallurgy in the Alps, particularly copper production and cultural exchange across the Alpine ridge. She has led projects like 'Rusty iron' (2018) on sodium sulfite desalination and '3D Applications in Archaeology' (2018) for artifact visualization. Her publications analyze Late Neolithic settlements (Kiechlberg), Late Bronze Age tuyères, and ritual burials at Podersdorf am See.
Scientific awards include the Alpine Region Research Prize (2014) and the Dr. Otto Seibert Prize (2013). She has advised PhD candidate Florian Messner on Tyrolean swordsmithing studies. Projects are funded by Austrian National Bank Anniversary Fund, FWF HiMAT, and TWF grants.
