Ulrike Preußer

Professor Ulrike Preußer is a faculty member at the University of Bielefeld's Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies, where she holds a W2 professorship in Literary Didactics. She is affiliated with multiple departments including Subject Didactics and Cultural Education, Cultural Studies, and Literary Studies, and serves on various committees such as the Commission for Teaching and Student Affairs and the Examination Committee.

Her educational background includes completing her teaching degree in German/Philosophy at Universität Bielefeld in 2000, followed by her dissertation with summa cum laude in 2006 on phraseologisms in literary texts. Her academic career progressed from teaching positions to research assistant roles at multiple universities before becoming Juniorprofessorin at Universität Duisburg-Essen in 2014 and ultimately securing her current professorship at Bielefeld in 2016.

Prof. Preußer's research focuses on literary learning processes from cross-media perspectives, with particular interest in writing and conversation opportunities in reading situations, children's and youth media (especially picture books and comics), and phraseologisms in children's literature. Since 2012, she has led the long-term project 'ELK – Erfahrungen mit Literatur in Kindertexte' analyzing literary learning in elementary school contexts, and since 2021 has co-directed the 'Kleine Sprachfüchse' language promotion project funded by the city of Bielefeld and Martini Foundation.

She maintains an active presence in academic communities through numerous presentations at conferences and workshops, with recent talks focusing on visual literacy, children's media didactics, and language promotion through picture books. Her professional memberships include the European Society for Phraseology, German Association of Germanists, International Society for Book Studies, and Society for Children's and Young Adult Literature Research, among others spanning from 1998 to present.

Prof. Preußer teaches various courses related to language and literature didactics for primary education, including modules on language and literature didactics, literary aspects of German studies relevant to primary school, and preparation for practical semesters.
