Ulrike Harke serves as a Researcher in the Computational Biology department at the Faculty of Biology, University of Bielefeld, with additional affiliation to the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec). Her work connects with the university's Microbiology in a data-driven world (MDDW) focus area, which leverages biotechnology and bioinformatics strengths in synthetic biology and machine learning to study complex microbial communities.
Her research interests span computational biology, bioinformatics, microbial communities analysis, synthetic biology, and machine learning applications in biological systems. These areas align with Bielefeld University's strategic emphasis on the Material World research area, which examines structures and processes at the interfaces of physics, chemistry, biology and bioinformatics.
As part of CeBiTec, one of Bielefeld's Central Academic Institutes, Harke contributes to interdisciplinary research that combines expertise from multiple faculties and collaborates with national and international partner institutions. The institute promotes young researchers through various formats and exchanges research findings with stakeholders across science, politics, civil society and business.
