Ulrich Schnitzer

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Schnitzer is a Professor of Planning and Building in Rural Areas at KIT's Department of Architecture. Since 1966, he has been a freelance architect and since 2001 partners with Dipl.-Ing. Maria Plank, specializing in architecture, energy efficiency, and monument preservation. His academic career includes a 1966 diploma in architecture, 1969 doctorate, 1977 habilitation, and deanship (1986–1988).

Research focuses on rural development planning, equestrian facilities design, agricultural building, and preservation of historical monuments. He has contributed to over 40 projects including the relocation of the Falkenhof to the Black Forest Open-Air Museum. Awards include the Hugo-Häring Architecture Prize and German Rider Cross.

Long-term advisor to federal ministries and professional organizations like the German Equestrian Federation. Served as a publicly appointed expert for stable construction and animal husbandry facilities.
