Professor Ulrich Kück holds a position at Ruhr University Bochum within the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, specifically leading the Chair of General and Molecular Botany. His research spans multiple areas of molecular botany with a particular focus on fungal systems and plant molecular biology.
Professor Kück's research interests include molecular mechanisms of fungal development, chloroplast biology, RNA processing, and signal transduction pathways. His work on the STRIPAK complex has provided significant insights into eukaryotic development and sexual differentiation processes in fungi.
Throughout his career, Professor Kück has led numerous research projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), including investigations into ribonucleoprotein complexes involved in chloroplast intron splicing, gene expression profiling for polarity determinants in fungal development, and structural analyses of mating-type locus-encoded transcription factors in Penicillium species.
He has served as speaker for Collaborative Research Center SFB 480 on 'Molecular Biology of Complex Functions of Botanical Systems' and participated in International Research Training Group GRK 795 focused on regulatory networks in cellular systems. His work on cell differentiation in fungi and biogenesis of organelles in photoautotrophic organisms represents significant contributions to the field of molecular botany.
