Ulrich Häussermann is a Professor at Stockholm University's Department of Chemistry (Kemikum), where he leads a research group focused on inorganic solid state and materials chemistry. His work emphasizes metallic and semimetallic materials, including hydrides, borides, and carbides, with a particular interest in the functional properties of quasicrystals.
The research group investigates the relationship between the aperiodic atomic structure of quasicrystals and their unique electronic/magnetic properties, aiming to harness these materials for advanced technological applications. Current projects include Functional Quasicrystals? – Harnessing the complexity of aperiodic intermetallic compounds, which explores how structural complexity introduces novel physical behaviors in Tsai-type systems.
