Ulrich Heid

Professor Ulrich Heid is a faculty member at the Institute for Information Science and Language Technology (IwiSt) at the University of Hildesheim, where he serves as a Professor in the Department of Information Science and Natural Language Processing within the Department of Linguistics and Information Sciences (FB3).

Professor Heid's research spans multiple areas of information science with a particular focus on natural language processing, lexicography, and language technology. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical applications in digital humanities and educational contexts. He has made significant contributions to computational linguistics, particularly in dictionary development, language resource creation, and the application of NLP techniques to educational settings. Professor Heid has supervised several doctoral students to completion, including Noushin Fadaei (who researched 'Interactive Trend Detection' using patent descriptions), Lea Wöbbekind (who studied 'Construction and Validation of Measurement Instruments for User Experience Research with Children and Adolescents'), and Theresa Kruse (who developed and evaluated an electronic dictionary for graph theory for teacher training students). He actively participates in the European Master in Lexicography (EMLEX) program and collaborates with international institutions on lexicographic projects.

He is deeply involved in organizing major academic events, including serving as program committee chair for KONVENS 2025 (Conference on Natural Language Processing), contributing to EURALEX conferences, and participating in summer schools such as ESSISGEN 2025 in Barcelona.
