Prof. Dr. Ulrich Glassmann serves as Professor of Comparative Political Economy at the European University of Flensburg (EUF) since 2016 and is an associated researcher at the Excellence Cluster "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz since 2024. Previously, he held the position of Vice President for Europe and International Affairs at EUF (2021-2024), where he successfully secured funding for the EMERGE university alliance through the European Commission's European Universities Initiative.
His research concentrates on economic, education, and social policy in international comparison, with particular focus on conflict dimensions of inequality, debt, and corruption. Theoretically, he examines cooperation and conflict patterns of economic and political actors in collective action dilemmas, with regional emphasis on Mediterranean economies, especially Italy's political economy within the European context. His recent work analyzes center-periphery relations in Europe, skill regimes in Italy, and the connection between growth strategies of Western countries and resulting social imbalances like homelessness and mental health problems.
Prof. Glassmann's publication record shows consistent scholarly output with multiple 2024 works on the political economy of Italy and European integration. His research spans comparative political economy, varieties of capitalism, welfare state analysis, and experimental political science, reflecting both theoretical depth and empirical rigor across different methodological approaches.
