Ulrich Busse

Professor Ulrich Busse holds the Chair in English Linguistics at Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. His research spans historical linguistics (focusing on Early Modern English, Shakespearean language, and historical pragmatics) and synchronic linguistics (language contact, particularly English's influence on German and other European languages). He co-authored the seminal Anglizismenwörterbuch, a landmark lexicographical work on Anglicisms in German. Currently, he leads the GLAD-project to create a Global Anglicism Database, addressing challenges in multilingual data harmonization and user-focused design. His work integrates corpus-based analysis and historical codification studies.

Research priorities include standardization processes in English, diachronic variation analysis, and metalexicographical methodologies. The GLAD-project’s pilot phase (testing letter 'O') and ongoing work on letters A-C demonstrate his commitment to collaborative, principle-driven lexicography.
