TİMUR DEMİR is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Archaeology at Gaziantep University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He has been serving in this position since 2016, following his tenure as a Research Assistant at the same institution from 2006 to 2016.

Dr. DEMİR earned his Doctorate in Archaeology from Gazi University's Institute of Social Sciences (2008-2015), following a Master's degree in Archaeology from the same institution (2004-2008), and a Bachelor's degree in Classical Archaeology from Anadolu University's Faculty of Letters (1999-2003).
His research interests focus on Anatolian archaeology with special emphasis on Frig and Urartu civilizations, archaeological surface research, rescue excavations, and the study of archaeological ceramics. His work particularly examines the prehistoric to Late Antiquity periods in the Gaziantep region. He has conducted extensive fieldwork including the Doğanpınar Dam Rescue Excavations at Yenice Mound and archaeological surface research in the Oğuzeli district.
Dr. DEMİR's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on regional archaeological studies, with particular attention to water systems from the Mamluk era, rock tombs, rural settlements, and ceramic production. His work bridges traditional archaeological methods with ethnoarchaeological approaches to understand ancient production techniques and settlement patterns.

As an academic advisor, Dr. DEMİR has supervised eight master's theses on diverse topics including Hellenistic rock-cut tombs, Iron Age sculpture in Şanlıurfa, Assyrian presence in the Middle Euphrates region, and the urbanization process in Northern Syria during the 3rd and 2nd millennia BCE. He has also participated in several research projects, including the Doğanpınar and Ardıl Dam Archaeological Rescue Excavations and the Gaziantep Archaeological Surface Research Laboratory Project.
Dr. DEMİR has held administrative roles including Department Head Deputy (2015-present), Faculty Board Member (2017-2018), and Acting Department Head (2017-2018). He teaches undergraduate courses on Frig Civilization, Urartu Civilization, Archaeology Introduction, and various specialized courses in Anatolian archaeology.
