Tyrell Carr

Tyrell Carr serves as an instructor at Saint Augustine's University through the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program. They are designated as Primary Instructor for PHS 480 - Public Health Intern (Fall 2025), an in situ phage discovery course utilizing Arthrobacter globiformis as the host bacterium with one senior student enrolled.

Research focuses on bacteriophage genomics and microbiology within public health contexts, emphasizing hands-on student engagement in phage isolation and genomic analysis. Work contributes to the national SEA-PHAGES network's mission of advancing undergraduate science education through authentic research experiences in evolutionary biology and microbial genetics.

Currently advising one senior student in a structured 4-hour weekly curriculum involving phage discovery techniques. Active within the SEA-PHAGES collaborative network, participating in program events including the 2025 Phage Discovery Workshops and upcoming 2026 symposia. Course structure includes biweekly meetings dedicated to microbiological research methodologies.
