Tyler Moore serves as the Tandy Professor of Cyber Security and Chair of the School of Cyber Studies at The University of Tulsa. He holds dual appointments in the School of Cyber Studies and the Tandy School of Computer Science, where he directs the Security Economics Lab. As the inaugural chairperson of the School of Cyber Studies (founded in 2021), he oversees interdisciplinary cyber degrees at B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels.
Moore's research spans security economics, cybercrime measurement, and cybersecurity policy, with recent work focusing on cryptocurrency security, cost-benefit analysis of security measures, and empirical studies of security incidents. His work has established him as a leading expert in understanding the economic dimensions of cybersecurity challenges. He has published extensively in top venues and co-founded the Journal of Cybersecurity, serving as its Editor-in-Chief.
His research output demonstrates consistent focus on empirical measurement of cybercrime, economic analysis of security investments, and policy implications of cybersecurity challenges. Recent work has particularly emphasized cryptocurrency security, enterprise risk management, and behavioral aspects of security decision-making.
Key honors include an NSF CAREER Award (2017), the Zelimir Schmidt Award for Outstanding Research (2018), and the Cybersecurity Fellow award from New America (2016-17). His earlier career was supported by prestigious fellowships including the Marshall Scholarship and an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
Moore actively mentors students at all levels, supervising numerous PhD candidates in the Security Economics Lab while maintaining strong connections with alumni who have gone on to faculty positions, industry leadership roles, and advanced research careers. He has developed and taught courses on security economics, secure electronic commerce, and cyber security fundamentals.
