Tyler Girard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Purdue University. He holds core faculty positions in the Governance and Responsible AI Lab (GRAIL) and the Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts program. Girard earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario (2021) and was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at Duke University. His research focuses on the political economy of digital technologies, global norm promotion, and methodological innovations in scaling and measurement.
His book project examines the global financial inclusion agenda through the lens of 'participatory ambiguity,' exploring how transnational communities shape global agendas. Girard’s work has been published in leading journals such as the American Political Science Review, International Studies Quarterly, and Review of International Political Economy. He has also contributed to public-facing publications like Policy Options and The Conversation.
Awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for his dissertation, Girard teaches courses in international political economy and research methods, emphasizing active learning and real-world applications. His current projects include analyzing digital governance strategies in the U.S., EU, and China, as well as measuring public perceptions of AI risks and cross-national foreign policy attitudes.
