Tyler Burge is the Flint Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he has taught since 1971. Education:
- B.A., Wesleyan University (1967)
- Ph.D., Princeton University (1971)
Research Interests: Burge's work integrates philosophy with cognitive science, emphasizing how perception and representation ground objectivity. Key themes include anti-individualism (mental content dependence on environment), perceptual constancies, and the structure of propositional thought. His recent focus is on non-propositional perception and its role in early cognition.
Publications: Burge has authored over 160 publications, including influential books like Origins of Objectivity (2010) and Cognition Through Understanding (2013). His articles consistently explore perception, reference, and epistemology, with recent works addressing empirical warrant and infant cognition.
