Ty Leonard

Dr. Ty Leonard is a Professor and Director of the Master of Arts in Counseling Program at the Mayborn College of Health Sciences, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). He plays a leadership role in clinical mental health counseling education and has significantly contributed to the development of counseling services and training at the institution.

His research interests span a wide range of critical topics in counseling, including ethics in clinical training, mental health access for underserved populations, and integrating spiritual and religious beliefs in counseling. He also investigates faculty well-being in counselor education, athlete focus and performance, Integral Breath Therapy, and graduate students' ego strength development. These areas reflect a deep commitment to holistic, ethical, and accessible mental health care.

Dr. Leonard has been recognized for his excellence in teaching and counselor education, receiving the 2017 Outstanding Counselor Educator award from the Texas Association for Counseling and Supervision and UMHB’s Excellence in Teaching Award in the same year.

He founded the Community Counseling Clinic at UMHB, served as its Director from 2005 to 2013, and established the first chapter of Chi Sigma Iota in the graduate counseling program.
