Tuulia Ortner is a Professor and Head of the Department of Psychological Diagnostics at the Department of Psychology, University of Salzburg (PLUS). She also serves as Head of the Psychology Department, Head of the Test Library of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at PLUS, and Diversity Representative of the Psychology Department. Her academic career includes previous positions as University Professor at the Free University of Berlin (2011-2012), Junior Professor for Psychological Assessment and Gender Studies (2008-2011), and Research Associate (2005-2007).
Ortner earned her Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Vienna (2001-2004) and completed a Master's degree in International Gender Studies at Rosa-Mayreder College Vienna (2004-2005). Her primary research interests include psychological diagnostics, personality assessment, cognitive performance testing, leadership psychology, and gender studies.
Her research focuses on improving human behavior prediction through psychological diagnostics. She investigates sources of test bias threatening fairness in cognitive performance diagnostics and develops behavior-based personality tests, including a unique pilot personality test developed with an Austrian flight simulator manufacturer. Her work also examines characteristics of individuals with leadership qualities and quality development in diagnostic procedures and assessment standards.
Her scientific contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards including the Alfred Binet Prize (2021), Kurt-Zopf Award of the University of Salzburg (2019), Theodor Körner Prize (2004), and Fellowship in the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2004).
Prof. Ortner holds significant editorial responsibilities as Editor-in-Chief of the EAPA Book Series since 2016 and Consultant Editor of the European Journal of Psychological Assessment since 2017. She also chairs Committee 249 of Austrian Standards. Her laboratory work centers on developing innovative diagnostic tools and behavioral assessment methods within the Department of Psychological Diagnostics.
