Tuomas Skriko

Tuomas Skriko is an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in the Mechanical Engineering department at LUT School of Energy Systems, LUT University. Since December 2022, he has held an assistant professor position, which was upgraded to a tenure track professorship in May 2023. He also serves as the head of the Welding Technology Unit at LUT University, a position he has held since 2020.

Dr. Skriko's educational background includes a Doctor of Science (Tech.) from LUT University and an International Welding Engineer (IWE) qualification. His research focuses on welding technology, materials science, and structural engineering, with particular expertise in:

• Arc welding processes
• Welding automation and intelligent welding
• Digital welding production
• Welding quality
• Welding metallurgy
• Weldability of advanced materials

His scholarly output shows a consistent focus on improving welding technologies for ultra-high strength steels, with particular emphasis on fatigue analysis, distortion control, and digital integration. Recent work demonstrates increasing integration of artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies into welding processes, reflecting industry trends toward smart manufacturing. His publications span both theoretical modeling and experimental validation, with strong industry relevance.

Dr. Skriko has secured over 5 million euros in external funding from prestigious sources including Business Finland, the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund Plus, and the Emil Aaltonen Foundation. His research has practical applications across multiple industries.

As an educator, Dr. Skriko has supervised over 80 theses (6 Doctor of Science, 55 Master of Science, and 21 additional Doctor of Science theses) and has led the development of LUT's Welding Technology study program across bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.

His professional network spans global welding companies including Kemppi, Pemamek, Andritz, Ponsse, John Deere, Škoda Transtech, Sandvik Mining and Construction, and Junttan. He also maintains active connections with the Finnish Welding Society (appointed to the SHY board in 2022) and the International Institute of Welding (member since 2012).
