Tunahan DEMİRCİ

Tunahan DEMİRCİ is an Associate Professor at Suleyman Demirel University's Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, where he also serves as Department Head and Deputy Director of the Institute. His research focuses on plant biotechnology with particular emphasis on secondary metabolite production in medicinal plants.

His research interests include Plant Biotechnology, Genetics, Medicinal Plants, T-plasmid transfer, Transgenic Plant Production, Secondary Metabolites, In vitro Secondary Metabolite Biosynthesis, Biosynthesis Pathways of Phytochemicals, and Isolation of Medical Active Substances from Plants. His work primarily involves in vitro culture techniques to enhance production of bioactive compounds in endangered medicinal plants like Gentiana species, Hyoscyamus niger, and Echinacea purpurea.

Analysis of his recent publications (2020-2025) reveals a strong focus on how various elicitors (methyl jasmonate, salicylic acid, nanoparticles, brassinosteroids) affect secondary metabolite production in plant cell cultures. His research spans multiple plant species including Gentiana, Hyoscyamus, Isatis, Echinacea, and Rubia, with particular attention to conservation of endangered species through micropropagation techniques.

Dr. DEMİRCİ has been awarded multiple TÜBİTAK projects (1001 and 1002) as principal investigator, demonstrating his leadership in plant biotechnology research in Turkey. His projects focus on nanoparticle applications, secondary metabolite production, and conservation of endangered plant species.

He teaches courses including Research Method Techniques, Graduation Project I, Plant Biotechnology, Biology II, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Biotechnological methods in the production of drugs and drug raw materials, and In vitro secondary metabolite production, reflecting his expertise across both theoretical and applied aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology.
